在第1章中，发展了用来研究η不变量的分析学。第2章中，应用η不变量去研究K理论。在第3章中，应用η不变量和K理论去研究等变（下）配边。第4章是本版中新加的。在这章中，当基本群是一个容许正标量曲率度量的球面空间时，我们可以应用前三章的结果去检验在旋量的背景下的相关结果，可以将这个问题简化为等变（下）配边中的问题，随后应用K理论，这可以使用η不变量来解决。
