本研究从认知心理学的角度出发，探讨中国外语学习者在目的语接触机会相对匮乏的特殊背景下，如何有效地学习目的语词汇。本研究以信息加工层次理论为理论背景，以信息加工过程模式为理论框架，在输入和输出理论的指导下，设计两类四种不同认知模式（偶遇式／刻意式；自上而下／自下而上）的教学活动，分析论证了“输入加工”，“输出”等信息加工的不同认知阶段和认知表征系统对二语词汇学习作用的差异性，通过实验数据对不同认知模式对目标词汇在词汇宽度和词汇深度（含语义、语用、搭配）等各个不同维度习得的有效性和差异性进行了深入的论证和分析。
