本书即以二语动机自我系统理论为理论框架，采用混合研究的干预实验模式，探究了提高理想二语自我对在中国的英语学习者的二语自我、二语学习体验感和学习动机是否有影响。研究结果显示，经过8周的教学实验干预，随着学习者理想二语自我的不断提高，他们的二语自我显著下降，同时二语学习体验感和学习二语的努力程度显著提升。结论表明在语言教学中，教师应通过多样化的动机提升策略，帮助学生增强自己的理想二语自我，进而把英语学习的动机更多由被动意识转化为主动意识，提高学生的学习投入和努力程度。
